The New Hampshire Historical Society and New Hampshire Humanities are hosting  representatives from museums, cultural organizations, and local historical societies around the state for a summit on the upcoming America 250 commemoration in 2026 of the Declaration of Independence.

There's currently a waiting list for the event. But AHSNH is attending on your behalf and will report on what the state commission and other organizations in New Hampshire have planned, potential grant opportunities and ideas from your colleagues. Meanwhile, NH Humanities is conducting a related survey. They want to learn more about what events or projects organizations across NH are planning to commemorate the anniversary. Please use this link to complete a short survey to help them gain a better understanding of your organizations' plans, thoughts and interests.

AHSNH MEMBER EVENT/EXHIBIT SPOTLIGHT: Manchester Historic Association

Millyard Museum, 200 Bedford Street, Manchester
COST: with regular admission
On exhibit April 18 through November 1, 2024

This special exhibit (link to exhibit here) features 200 years of dresses worn by amazing women from Manchester’s past. These matriarchs of Manchester lived incredible lives as entrepreneurs, philanthropists, doctors, teachers, activists, New Hampshire First Ladies, and homemakers.

Generously donated by loved ones and lovingly preserved by the Manchester Historic Association, these dresses tell the stories of the vibrant women who wore them. Bearing witness to the happiest and saddest moments in the lives of their owners, these dresses witnessed both unspeakable joy and unbearable pain and every emotion in-between.

As you travel though the history of fashion and evolution of design and fabrication, imagine the memories these gowns might hold. Motherhood, careers and the simple tasks of everyday life become immortal through every worn hem and altered seam.
